Rare Popcorn Smelling Binturong Close Up

This is the rare and unusual Binturong (Arctictis binturong), also known as a Bearcat. They're originally from Southeast Asia and have been assessed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. This Binturong lives at the Birmingham Wildlife center in Birmingham England together with a couple of otters. They seem to stay out of each others way as they've got different housing within the enclosure, but as you can see in the video, the Otters do pop their head into the Binturong home from time to time. If you haven't heard it before, you're probably  wondering.. popcorn smelling? It is actually a proven fact that they do really smell of popcorn! They say the pee has the same chemical compounds 2-AP that gives popcorn its tantalising scent! I can still remember the first time someone ask me, do they really smell of popcorn and I thought they were joking or just crazy, but yes I can confirm they do smell of popcorn! :-)

When Cute Otters Get Hungry

When Cute Otters Get Hungry.....

These small clawed otters, also called Asian small clawed Otter are just adorable. When it's food time, they are trying to make time go quicker by playing with the stones. They're 'juggling' them from one paw to another, flip the stones in the air and just love to bounce them off the glass. Just look at their cute face and don't miss the end when a keeper walks past with some food. The reaction is just priceless as they're jumping up and down the glass in anticipation. In the end it's all worth it and they're coming back to the camera to show off their food.

Otter Looks Frantically For Nest Making Materials

This Asian short clawed otter or oriental short clawed otter is frantically looking for some nesting material and carrying it all its mouth around the enclosure and finally getting it into its den. Even a very thorny bush branch is amongst the collection of leaves and sticks. They say otters build nest every day for comfort and security. Not sure about the comfort bit, with that thorny branch.

Nest are not just for birds! Otters are mammals, along with primates like gorillas and orangutans that build great nests.

Stunningly Beautiful Autumn Sunset Above Lichfield Cathedral

Stunningly Beautiful Autumn Sunset Above Lichfield Cathedral
A blazing display of colours, with candyfloss clouds at sunset above the famous Lichfield Cathedral in Lichfield Staffordshire England. The pink reflection from the sky in the Stowe pool made the look complete. Ducks, geese and swans swimming across the water.

Lopes Little Quirks Compilation

Gorilla Lope's Quirk Compilation

Just a little compilation of some of Lopes not so well known quirks that make him such a lovable character.

His funny walks, his left leg kicking out when he walks on all fours , knocking on the shelter and swinging his arms and doing a little hop, my favourite. Not quite sure what he was doing inside the enclosure, but hey that's Lope.

Hairless Chimpanzee Enjoying His Food

Hairless chimpanzee is really enjoying his food. The zoo staff put it a lot of vegetables in a bottle and some wood shavings to make it a bit harder to get to. You can see Jambo removing the wood shaving and eating the vegetables. Jambo suffers from alopecia, which is the general medical term for hair loss. There is always a debate going on is he black is he white. Neither, his colour actually changes from pink to quite dark during the year.
Twycross Zoo is building a new enclosure for the chimpanzees and should be ready next year!

Gibbon Has Fun With Its Crazy Tree Acrobatics

Gibbon Has Fun With Its Crazy Tree Acrobatics

This Lar Gibbon ( white-handed gibbon) seems to have a great time doing crazy acrobatics on the tree. Dudley Zoo in England has a good enclosure. Large natural trees and bushes growing on the banks of the Dudley Castle for the gibbons to climb on and have fun in and this one certainly makes use of all that space.  Did you know that gibbons aren't monkeys? There are actually smaller apes or lesser apes. Like all apes, gibbons are tailless.

Orangutan Infant Explores Surroundings Without Mum

Orangutan infant is exploring his surroundings at the Twycross Zoo in England without his mum, but she isn't that far away and has a watchful eye on her son. He's inspecting the climbing net and having a wander. Just look at his hairdo, he just so cute. He's still crawling along when mum comes and picks him up of the grass.

Curious Monkeys

Curious Monkeys - Who's Watching Who?

Curious Monkeys, the Yellow-breasted Capuchin and the Pygmy marmoset come close to have a nosy at the camera. The baby Capuchin monkey is having a good look and licks the glass . Mom is giving the camera a quick smile. The funny New World monkey keeps turning its head with the other one watching.  Makes you wonder who is watching who?

Gorilla Dad Stops Son Playing With The Food And Taps His Leg Out

As you saw in my earlier videos, baby Gorilla Shufai had a great time playing with the tree branches. Dad later decided he is going to take all the tree branches away, to take with him inside. He’s obviously not keen on his son playing with the food. Brave Shufai follows him as to say “what you are you doing, give me back those branches.” Back outside again, Shufai actually managed to get one of the tree branches back, minus some leaves, but Oumbi is having none of it and jerks the branch out of Shufais hand. Mum sitting there enjoying her food, not at all worried about her son getting hurt. She knows he's fine and you know how protective she is from my other videos. Look at little Shufai though, he's not fazed by his dad and follows him again. Unfortunately dad being dad, when Shufai touched his leg he taps his leg out ( a "David Beckham" style world cup kick which he deserves a red card for.) and grazed his son. As you can see, Shufai is fine, more bewildered than anything else and then just runs off.

Prickly Business - Otter Versus Thorny Bush

This Otter from the Twycross Zoo is having a battle with a thorny bush in his enclosure. You would think he would of chosen the much easier tree on the other site of his enclose, but no only this thorny bush will do. His mate is watching him and giving him a quick poke with his nose as if to say, hey, what are you doing? When he finally got the piece he wanted, it gets proudly paraded. Otters love to collect bits and bobs for building their nests.

Lope The Gorilla Youngster Is Getting Chased

Lope The Gorilla Youngster Is Getting Chased

Thank you for everyone that voted on my YouTube Poll who is chasing Lope. Shufai was a slow start to get the votes and most of you said the dad would be chasing Lope, but in the end Shufai took the lead with 31% . As you can see, yes Shufai is chasing Lope. I also made the video longer, because lots of you requested a longer video. So hopefully you won't get bored now, but who can get bored with Lope and Shufai? :-) It was a real pleasure watching little baby Shufai chasing after Lope. I think Shufai had a lot more energy than his big brother. As Lope seemed to get quite tired and maybe even a bit annoyed, but watch til the end to see what happens!
