Wild Dartmoor Pony Charges At Cow
This is beautiful Dartmoor in England with its far reaching landscape views. You’ve got the famous wild roaming Dartmoor Ponies one of the horse breeds, cows and sheep which all graze freely on the moors all year round. You’ll see the horses and cows and even a few new born foals laying in the grass near the Hay Tor rocks. The cows are grazing nearby, until they decided “the grass was greener on the other side” and got a bit too close to the beautiful black horses. All this space, but the cattle decided they wanted to be where the horses are. One of the cows was determined to try its luck and approached a horse, but the Stallion didn’t take it likely and started bolting towards the cow. I slowed this part down. You have never seen a cow move this quickly.
The Dartmoor Ponies are an iconic sight with a stunning backdrop of the moors. In 1950 it is said there were around thirty thousand ponies on the moor, unfortunately now they are only about 1500. There are three breeds of ponies on Dartmoor the Purebred Dartmoor Ponies, Dartmoor Heritage Ponies and the Shetland Ponies.
Hay tor rocks or just Hay Tor is a granite tor, a natural beauty spot and one of Dartmoor's most famous landmarks. Dartmoor is protected by National Park status and is about 370 square miles in size. A big part of this is owned by the Duke of Cornwall. Even though 57.3% is owed privately, in contrasts from other National Parks in England and Wales; it has been a nominated Access Land, which gives walkers the freedom to roam. It is necessary for all the horses, ponies’ cows and sheep to be registered with the Dartmoor Commoners’ Council. Cows have tags in their ears and the ponies and horses are branded.
