A bit of caution as this video includes many close up shots of the loose tooth and it might not be for everybody, but nothing we haven’t all been through! :-)
This is the long detailed version of the day when Lope has a loose baby tooth.
As soon as I got to Twycross Zoo, Lope was playing with his loose tooth, obviously trying to get it out. He gives it a good wiggle, but it’s staying put. If anybody wonders why he has a black tongue, apparently it’s because of the food he eats. It is because of something called tannins which is present in many plant foods.
He keeps biting the fire hose and beating his chest at mum Ozala, with little Shufai sitting by her site suckling (haven’t seen him do that for a while). Even though with his tooth ache, he still takes a grab for his little brother, but mum is quick to intervene. Don’t jump when you see Lope licking the wooden pole, as Asante came running and jumping over the pole given Lope and mum a bit of a wtf did just happen. :-) Lope seems to love licking things, like he wants to get rid of the taste of the blood from his tooth. Just like humans, you just can’t stop playing with the tooth.
Ozala brings some comfort when Lope is lying there starting to lick his face. He first enjoys the attention he’s getting, but then when it gets too much he has a wrestle with mum instead. At this point he still seem to have his tooth.
In the earlier video, you can see Lope losing his tooth after biting the hose and wrestling with mum, so I’m not quite sure what made him lose it in the end, the biting or the wrestling.
