Gorilla Brothers' Curiosity A Pigeon in Their Territory (Viewer discretion is advised)

via IFTTT The gorillas from Twycross Zoo have an injured pigeon in their enclosure. Viewer discretion is advised as some might find it upsetting. The video includes Shufai shooing the bird with his hands to hurry the bird along, or they are beating their chest at the bird. Neither gorilla purposely injures the pigeon. There was some shoving that I cut out as the pigeon got distressed and no one needs or wants to see that. Lope is unsure, investigating, and he also seems to protect the pigeon at times and chases after his younger brother when he's annoying the bird. Shufai is chasing after the pigeon in an upright position, beating his chest. Both are watching the pigeon, not quite sure of what to do. I wondered if Silverback Oumbi is going to come out and how he would have handled the situation, but it was only the brothers that had seen the bird. The GoBros stand there watching when Lope decides to take a stick to investigate. He's not poking it hard; he's been quite gentle. Smelling his stick afterwards. Shufai is shooing the pigeon along, even going through the puddle and throwing his toy in the air. Lope is more gentle, reaches out, and touches the pigeon with only one finger really carefully. He smells his finger. When he turns around to face the pigeon, he holds his hands, just watching the bird. Shufai starts to wave at the pigeon with some wood wool, Lope comes charging towards his brother, but he slips. He sits by the pigeon for a second. When Shufai was about to go back to the bird, Lope starts to chase him away. Lope comes back around and sits by the pigeon again and chews his toy. Lope found a kong a bit further away which he's chewing now and lying on his back when Shufai comes charging down the slope, clapping his hands. Shufai nearly slips but can recover. When Shufai comes running passed Lope, he gives chase again. On the second chase, Shufai accidentally falls and rolls backwards. Shufai sits in front of his safety door for a minute and then goes inside. Lope moves on and goes back to the pigeon. This time he charges the pigeon and beats his chest. When Shufai is back out, another chase, and Shufai goes back inside again. Lope slides on his back down the slope and beats his chest again at the pigeon, but then leaves it be. When Shufai waddles after the pigeon again and beats his chest, Lope comes to the rescue and chases Shufai off again. Lope has a little slip but still carries on, and after that, they left the pigeon alone as it was time for their next scatter feed, and they kept themselves busy with the food. No one else from the gorilla family noticed the pigeon. The staff knew about the pigeon, but unfortunately, they seem to be unable to help or remove the pigeon. My guess would be that it was because they had trouble getting Lope in at lunchtime; they did try, but he just didn't want to go inside. The pigeon was still alive by the time I left in the late afternoon, but to be totally honest, as the pigeon injured itself flying into the enclosure and then getting gorilla handled (some shoving), even if they did manage to remove the bird later on, I don't think the pigeon could be saved. I'm often unsure whether to show some videos or not, but it has always been my belief that it's crucial to present all aspects of animal behaviour, not just the favourable ones. By observing Lope and Shufai in these diverse situations, we gain insights into these remarkable creatures. Although at times it may be difficult to witness, it reflects the realities of the natural world, both positive and challenging moments. Why did I write " Shufai sits in front of his safety door" : Gorilla Lope is staying outside most of the time now. As Lope is staying away from his dad, he spends most of his time outside and will only go in if he's sure his dad isn't close by. Shufai knows this, and every time he has had enough of Lope's chase, he quickly goes through the door, inside to hide. via IFTTT Gorillas have an intruder. An injured pigeon. This is a #shorts preview of tomorrow's ( 31st July 2023) video. The GoBros found a pigeon at the bottom of their enclosure and weren't sure what to do with it. The pigeon injured itself flying in and couldn't get back out again. Shufai beats his chest at the bird whereas his older brother Gorilla Lope touches it gently and smells his finger. Just so you know before you watch the video tomorrow. I will cut most of the scenes out that were too hard to watch, especially Shufai was quite mean to the pigeon, not for the sake of being mean, but because he just didn't know what to think about the situation or how to handle it. The staff knew about the pigeon but unfortunately seem to be unable to help or remove the pigeon. Born on June 9, 1982, his daughter Genet and his mother Coco (1965) share the same habitat. Coco is the oldest animal at Twycross Zoo. Jambo's siblings from his father's side, Holly (born December 27, 1982) and Jomar (born December 28, 1990), are also in the same habitat. His first son Peter is in neighbouring enclosures. In November 2018, Jambo lost his ear, possibly due to an accidental fight with his mother. Attempts to reattach it with skin glue failed as he continued to pick on it. In October 2022, he also lost a toe, with the cause unknown but possibly related to fights and agitation during mating season. In 2018, the chimpanzees received a new habitat called "Chimpanzee Eden." It spans 1,160 square meters and includes two seven-meter-high indoor spaces connected to a large outdoor area with climbing frames and huts. Gorilla Mother's Tough Love Towards Her Baby Daughter

via IFTTT The usually loving Gorilla mom, Dossi, has been displaying some tough love towards her daughter, Eyare, by pushing her away in various situations. It may appear harsh to us, but it's important to remember that Dossi has shown herself to be a caring and affectionate mother in previous videos, nursing, cuddling, and protecting her daughter from other monkeys. This behavior is part of the learning process and will likely benefit Eyare as she grows older. It's worth noting that the compilation we see was filmed over a couple of days, so these interactions are not happening constantly. There are moments when Dossi seems particularly firm with Eyare, especially when food is involved or when she wants some alone time. Despite this treatment, Eyare handles it all in her stride. Gorilla Dossi, residing at the Calgary Zoo, appears to have a fondness for the window area. She comfortably lies on her back with her feet crossed and one foot against the windowpane. With great interest, she picks up a bucket lid and begins to fill it with wood chips. Curious about her mother's activity, her daughter Eyare approaches, but Dossi doesn't seem too pleased and gives her a gentle push. Eyare steps back, touching her head in response. Although momentarily deterred, she can't resist returning for another look. However, Dossi again uses her finger to push Eyare away. Disheartened, Eyare decides to play on her own while Dossi continues tossing the wood chips. I also included some close-up shots of Dossi's finger and thumb as she peels off bits from the wood chips. In the following scene, Eyare finds a stick, but Dossi takes it from her to use it on the food crate, trying to get some food out. Eyare extends her little hand to catch the falling bits, attempting to cuddle with her mom, but unfortunately receives another push. Observing this, one can't help but wish to give Eyare a long and comforting hug. Perhaps this is why Eyare has grown quite independent. Later, when Dossi obtains a round food puzzle, Eyare is intrigued and comes over to take a look. Unfortunately, she is once again pushed away by her mother's finger on her face. Since the filming of these events, Gorilla baby Okabe was born to mum Yewande, offering a future playmate for baby Eyare. Stay connected and never miss a moment! Orangutan Sprout And Djimat Male Getting Close

Intense Screams - A Scuffle - Finished With A Hug And Kiss For Jambo

via IFTTT *Jambo the hairless chimpanzee from the Twycross Zoo scatters the fight and later gets a hug and a kiss from mum Coco. * As we know it always all kicks off just before feeding time. Josie is behind Jomar looking for some comfort when the screaming gets more intense. Hairless chimp Jambo runs upright through the screaming group. He gets some biscuits in between and even when the screams intensify he collects some more biscuits and goes into the back room. You can't do battle on an empty stomach but he comes straight back out to see what's going on as the screams continue. Jambo does a giant leap out of the door. It's a bit difficult to see with all the ropes, but visible when slowing down the footage. The other chimps all pile onto the female chimpanzee Samantha. Only when Jambo comes close, does the group scatter. Jambo kicks out at one of the other chimps. I was unable to see who he kicked. The screaming still continues. Josie bites Jomars hand and looks for comfort again. Coco, Jambo's mother comes up to her son and gives him a hug and a kiss. All is quiet again when they all got their food. Gorilla Brothers Tree Chase

Shufai isn't happy with Lope's break and hits that blue barrel in his direction several times. Shufai manages to get Lope started again, but after a couple of rounds, Lope wants to take another break. Shufai is straight on him again and doesn't let him rest. Balancing Act by Hairless Chimp Jambo #shorts

Jambo, the alpha male of the group was born at the Twycross Zoo in England. He has alopecia, a form of hair loss he had since his youth. He was born on the 9th of June 1982. His daughter Genet, a brown chimp with a bald back and his mother Coco (1965) are in the same habitat. Coco is the oldest animal at Twycross Zoo. Jambo's siblings from his father's side are Holly who was born on the 27th of December 1982 and Jomar was born on the 28th of December 1990 both are in the same habitat as Jambo. William his half-brother was born on the 30th of June 1982 and Jambo's first son Peter is in the next-door enclosure. Jambo started to lose his ear in November 2018, which some staff believes happened accidentally, it got ripped by his mum in a group fight. Twycross Zoo tried to glue it back on with skin glue, but unfortunately, as time went past he picked on it so much that he lost all of it. In October 2022 Jambo lost a toe, it's unknown how exactly this happened. They have been some fights and agitation when Samatha the female chimpanzee is on heat, which might have been the reason. In 2018 The chimpanzees got their new "Chimpanzee Eden" habitat. A 1,160sqm area with two seven-meter-high indoor spaces which are linked to a large outdoor area complete with huge climbing frames and huts.

Gorilla Gets Revenge On The Annoying Monkeys

via IFTTT *At certain times of the day, the Gorilla troop get a visit from the colobus monkeys. This keeps both species on their toes, not only are they trying to get to the baby they annoy Gorilla Kioja, but she gets her revenge!* The colobus monkeys are very nosy and in this video are trying to get to the baby, but Mum Dossi is keeping her eye out and not letting them anywhere near her baby. This doesn't stop them from trying. Baby Eyare is in Mum's arms when suddenly a nosy colobus monkey comes closer and has a look at the two. Another colobus monkey comes running from Dossi's right and she puts her hand out so he keeps his distance. They stare at each other for a bit, but when one of the monkeys moves, Dossi gets up and she keeps Eyare by her side. They move and now a colobus monkey in on top of the rock looking down on the gorilla's mum and baby. Eyare seems to want to play and tries to climb up towards the monkey. Dossi quickly grabs her daughter's head and pulls her back towards her. As Mum is laying down, Eyare tries to get away again looking at the monkey that keeps looking at her. Her mother gets up and keeps an eye on her and the monkey. As it is busy I have to keep moving and trying to film over people's shoulders. When Dossi and her daughter sit by the window and the colobus monkey stares at the two again. A few minutes later the pestering colobus monkeys have a go at Gorilla Kioja. Not sure if you're able to see the first bit. Quite a few colobus monkeys gang up on her, but she's getting her own back minutes later! She runs after one of them, doesn't get it, but when the next one just sits there on the pole she takes her chance. There is a little scuffle and if you look at her hand, you'll see that she pulled out some hair from the colobus monkey. She looks at it, smells it and shakes it off her hand. Kioja climbs back down, while the monkeys get out of her way, but on the ground, she runs past one of the other gorillas on the hammock and pulls on it hard, making it swing. I'm not sure if Kioja was annoyed that nobody gave her a helping hand. Silverback Jasari was like usual in his little cave out of the way. So he didn't even hear or see what was going on. Cheeky Baby Orangutan Pulls Sprouts Hair

When Sprout, approaches him, he playfully grabs her eyebrow hair. Then he adjusts his position and seizes Sprout's head hair, pulling himself closer to give her a gentle nibble. He playfully slaps his hand against her face. His half-brother, who is also Sprout's son playfully bite each other. There is more footage of Jim on the webbing, happily chewing on a leaf. When Jazz feels thirsty, she returns to the older section of the enclosure, where a water bottle awaits her. Gorilla Shufai Wrapped In A Blanket

via IFTTT *Gorilla wrapped in a blanket and you can definitely see whom he learned from. Walking upright, holding all the blankets and mother Ozala getting a slap.* The zoo introduced some new enrichment items to the gorillas, including towels, blankets, and cloths. And boy did Gorilla youngster Shufai, make the most of it! Shufai went straight for the fluffiest blanket he could find and wrapped himself up in it, showing off on top of the hut's roof with a piece of broccoli in one hand. He climbed down and rolled towards Asante. I moved to get a better view. Brother Lope looking at him to see what his younger brother is up to. Shufai drags his blanket through the grass, sits down and puts it on his head. He moves again, sitting by the wall with all the blankets and towels he found on his head. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a better angle to cut out the glare. He suddenly throws himself into the grass and starts rolling, then walks up the slope where he rolls around again. Walking to the other site with the blanket on his back and another broccoli. When I catch up with him, he gathers up all the blankets he could find and walked upright towards the door like the ultimate gorilla fashionista. Even Mother Ozala couldn't resist giving him a curious look. He's back out again after a few minutes. The blanket has a few more rips in them which doesn't stop him from playing some more with it. I was surprised Lope stayed away. Normally a chase begins between the GoBros. Another Lope moves when he comes up behind his mum, charges towards her giving her a slap on the back and dragging what is left of the blanket through the grass. In the end a rest in the sun. Bonobo Ape's Mischievous Act Pulling Baby Brother Through the Grass

via IFTTT Bonobo ape drags baby brother through the grass The adolescent bonobo has always been quite mischievous. On this occasion, he thought it would be a good idea to pull his half-brother, Baby Upendi, through the grass. His intention was to play with Upendi, but it was evident that Upendi was trying to escape. Eventually, Upendi managed to break free and ran towards their mother, who was sitting nearby. Surprisingly the adult females allowed the youngsters to continue their antics. Before long, the young bonobo caught up with Upendi once again, and this time he grabbed his little foot, initiating another playful interaction. However, it seemed that Upendi found the rough play overwhelming and attempted to flee once more. Despite Upendi's efforts to escape, the adolescent bonobo persisted, gripping onto his foot and engaging in a playful struggle. Baby Gorilla Eyare Receives a Cascade of Cuddles from Mum

via IFTTT Continuing from last week's video. Plenty of Cuddles for the little Eyare. Gorilla Baby Eyare is in his mother's arms. Looking around. Some close-ups. Dossi bites her daughter gently. Her big hand compared to the size of Eyare are amazing. Dossi gently bites the little ones' feet. The daughter holds on to Mum's nostrils. When mum moves around she pulls her daughter on her belly. Eyare's feet are all over Mum's face, even holding onto her jaw with her foot. Later when they moved to the back, Eyare has a wrestle with Mum's arm. Playful Orangutan Baby Joe's Fascination With Stinging Nettle

via IFTTT It always amazes me how primates can handle stinging nettles without being stung. Gorillas seem to squeeze them first before eating. Baby Orangutan Joe just freely plays with them. Orangutan baby Joe sits in the grass, chewing on a buttercup flower. He crawls towards Jazz and Jim and steals Jim's stick he had in his hand. He then plays with the stinging nettle without any ill effect. Handling it and putting it in his mouth. At one point you just see Jazz's hand pulling little Joe closer by his head. In the next clip, you'll see Sprout approaching (a bit of fast-forwarding there) and the dad of Jim and Joe in the far back. Sprout has a look at what the three are doing and then sits next to them. Chimpanzee Jomar's Toy Testing Extravaganza feat. Jambo

via IFTTT Chimpanzee Jomar continues to explore all the new toys. In last week's video, he was playing with a ball. In this video, he reminds me of someone trying out the high striker, a strength tester at a fairground. Luckily, he doesn't have a hammer to strike, but he pushes the pipe up as far as he can. Before that, he sits on the toy and bounces on it, just like he did with the balls. Then he turns around and starts pushing the pipe upwards, increasing the force with each push. Come on, Jomar, hit the top for a perfect score! He attempts to push the pipe with his nose, but it doesn't work out. I have no idea what he's trying to do when he keeps pulling the pipes towards himself. He starts wiggling them in front of him. Once he's had enough, he climbs off the toy and starts pulling on it. He takes a moment to sit and think about what to do next. Then he vigorously pulls on the toy again, causing it to swing. When he's finished, he takes the ball to another toy, turns around, grabs a cloth, and waits for it... he actually unfolds it and puts it on the wooden shipping, then sits on it. Jambo, the hairless chimp, makes a quick appearance and climbs to the top. Gorilla Shufai Being Silly Rolling Past The Silverback

via IFTTT *Gorilla Shufai does a "Lope ( his big rascal brother)" He's being silly rolling past his dad, Silverback Oumbi. * Shufai and his dad Silverback Oumbi are down the bottom of the slope. Oumbi sitting in the grass, his son walking away backwards. Sorry about the shoddy camera work, shaking and zooming out and in too quickly and lots of glare 🙈. I was trying to get Oumbi's yawn and then while he was yawing Shufai started to get silly rolling away from him. Biddy came down the slope. Oumbi was walking around. Shufai attempted to give his dad a little slap and subsequently tried to wrestle his grandma from behind. She turned around and pushed him away. Ozala his mum is there as well. She's busy eating. Shufai continues being silly and rolls passed his dad. Oumbi and Biddy look at him and I can only imagine what goes through their head. "We've been here before" "Not another Lope" If that wasn't enough, Shufai comes rolling back again. Another big yawn from Oumbi. Now Shufai rolls towards me. A couple of minutes later, Oumbi Biddy and Ozala moved further around and Shufai does a typical Lope move, throwing himself off a little ledge and starting rolling again. I didn't see Lope during the video, he must have been on the other site. Lately, he's staying more and more away from his dad. There is no news yet on when Lope will be moved or where to. Gorilla Mum Fluffing Her Bed - Baby Copies Mum

via IFTTT Gorilla Dossi is fluffing her wood wool bed. She gets a bit in a strop as she pushes the square toy away. Her baby daughter playing in the back. At one point, from the side view, she almost looks like a cheerleader with her pom poms. She finally has a laydown and picks her nose and well, yes she eats it. Yummy lol. Having watched mum, her baby daughter is now playing in the back with the wood wool close to Kioja. I still can't believe how independent she is. If you remember from the last series from the Chessington Zoo troop, Baby Gorilla Aarde. She is the same age (4 days between them) and she was very much clinging to Mum most of the time. Eyare is very different she spends most time exploring and playing, but her mum is there when she needs some cuddles and feeding. There is plenty of that in the next video, next Thursday. When her daughter Sprout gave birth she walked away and left the baby on the floor. Mother Jazz picked the baby up straight away. Jazz is nursing both and giving both love, care and attention. Chimpanzee Ball Shenanigans - feat. Jambo

via IFTTT Join the hilarity as Chimpanzee Jomar gets a grip on his magnificent blue balls! Witness Jomar attempting a headstand on the ball. This video features Jambo, our bald chimp friend, observing Jomar's ball-gathering shenanigans. Watch as Jomar skillfully assembles the balls, sits on them, and even gives them a playful collision. Things take a turn as he starts jumping up and down. He gets up turns back towards the ball and moves to the far end with the balls ( I sped this bit up a little). Jambo is close behind him. Jomar settles back onto his balls, then rises to deliver comical blows with his arms. After realigning the balls, he resumes his bouncing adventure. In a surprising twist, Jomar dares to stand on the ball, engaging in a jumping frenzy. He gives the balls a few more playful taps before embarking on a valiant yet unsuccessful headstand endeavour. Oh, how I adore his endless energy as he bounces again, his arms giving him momentum. Gorilla Lope Asante and Oumbi's Enrichment Exploration

via IFTTT *Lope comes charging down the slope and beats his chest at Asante.* He quickly turns around though and leaves his aunt in peace to get some breakfast. Asante gets some as well and even has a peaceful snack next to the rascal Lope. He looks so big there next to her. His chest is really developing. Look at Lope's eyes as he throws a quick glance at her. When Lope makes a move, Asante thinks he's about to have a go at her, but nope Lope just moved and Asante got back to eating, while Lope is looking through the gap of the hut. The gaps in made some interesting interactions between the gorillas. Who could forget the time when he was annoying his dad, still one of the most watched videos ( https://youtu.be/ISKysW2XYac). A bit later Asante is on top of the climbing frame pouting her lips. She does love to be higher up, it seems to make her feel safe and she can watch what's going on down beneath her, but all is quiet there. Biddy eating in front of her, and Ozala is at the far end. At lunch, they get some enrichment. Wooden disks with what I believe are oats in between them. Gorilla Lope is approaching and gets to it straight away, but he can't quite figure out how to get to the oat easily. He's hitting the disk and then biting hard on it. He can obviously smell it. They did have these before a few times, so you'll think he knows by now what to do, but he hasn't got much patience. His younger brother Shufai is on the platform with another wooden disk enrichment, swinging it around. He also got himself an aubergine (eggplant), which they love a hell of a lot more than red cabbage lol. Down below Lope got himself an aubergine as well and while he's eating it he hits the disks against the pole. Silverback Oumbi is eating his aubergine and then has a go at the discs himself, using his finger to get some spilt-over oats sticking on the outside. Shufai came down from the platform when Ozala, his mum climbs up to take his place. Oumbi turns the disc around some more. Ozala had gone from the platform when Shufai and Asante took her place, sitting together and both having a look at the discs to see if there is anything left. Ozala (19 Mar 1994), had four sons and one daughter. Ozala's first mate was Ti. Ozala and Ti had Matadi on the 25th of May 2003 at Twycross Zoo. Then they had their daughter Ndoki on the 3rd of May 2007, but she sadly died on the 29th Aug 2007, unknown cause. Matadi is at the Antwerp Zoo in Belgium with his mate Mayani and they had a baby girl called Thandie. Ti died in 26 Feb 2007, the cause of it was a stroke. Oumbi got moved to Twycross Zoo in 2009 to mate with the females. Ozala was Oumbi chosen mate. Asante (6th Jun 1985) is Ozalas half-sister. She hasn’t got any offspring. Biddy is Ozala's Mum as she was born in the wild in 1973, there is no record of siblings or parents. Her offspring are Mambie and Ozala.
