IFTTT In this video, you'll see Gorilla Lope in his new bachelor pad inside and being tempted outdoors for some lunch. Also all the other family members in the other enclosure. Many of you have probably read my community post here: https://www.youtube.com/@SloggerVlogger/community I'm going to show you around Gorilla Lope's temporary bachelor pad. He has spent a couple of days here, so it's still quite early, and he's still getting used to his new home all by himself. This is the old Bonobo ape enclosure, divided into two parts that previously housed different bonobo ape groups. Now, both sides are open solely for Lope. Currently, he prefers the left side and the left off-view area. He only emerges briefly to grab toys or food before retreating to the off-view area again. He hasn't ventured outside much, but I managed to capture a few shots which you'll be able to see later in the video. In his upright manner, he finds a tree branch and takes it to the back. Let's take a quick look at both sides. His neighbours across from him are the giant tortoises, although they're quite low down, so I don't think he can see them from his position, at least not from the ground. Hopefully, the tortoises won't disturb him too much, as they tend to be quite noisy during their mating ritual. Lope picks up another tree branch and the yellow cube, carrying them to the rear. He reappears a bit later to investigate what's under the wood wool. It turns out to be a white cabbage, but for now, he leaves it untouched. I cherish the moments when he's up on his bed, chewing, so close. He has truly grown into a majestic-looking blackback. He climbs back down and retreats to the rear. When he's back out again, he seizes another cube and attempts to extract the sticky foodstuff from it. He looks around, acquainting himself with all the new things. After he moves away, keep a close watch, as he jumps onto the box with one leg and twirls around. He emerges a couple more times, grabbing his cabbage half and pulling down the sheet. The sheet was likely there to provide him with more privacy and hiding spots if needed, but he seems to prefer staying and hiding in the back. At lunchtime, the Twycross Zoo staff place food outside to entice him into the fresh air. It takes quite a while for him to cautiously poke his head out, and when he does venture out, he doesn't go for the carrots on the log. Instead, he swiftly grabs one of the logs, which have some sticky oats on them, and returns indoors. If there's one thing I've learned from filming animals, it's the importance of perseverance. Sometimes it pays off, while other times it doesn't, but it's a crucial aspect of observing animals. Lope does venture out again. He's a bit hesitant, glancing back at the door. However, with his confident swagger, he moves past the carrot pieces, takes a look around, and then sets his sights on another log with sticky oats. He takes it, licking some of the fallen oats off the platform. He continues to explore, picking up carrots and food pellets from the grass. He moves again and stands up, gazing in the direction of his old home, where his dad Oumbi, mom Ozala, brother Shufai, grandma Biddy, and aunt Asante are. The staff have applied frosted film to block his view of them from there. I believe it's the right decision, as it would likely cause agitation on both sides if they could see each other. However, I'm not entirely certain whether it will completely prevent him from seeing his brother if he climbs higher up, perhaps onto the roof. He swaggers back inside, holding carrots in his hand but leaving the log where he tossed it. He grabs another piece of broccoli and quickly retreats indoors again. As he heads to the back once more, I take a look at what the rest of the family is up to. Oumbi, the Silverback and Lope's dad is chasing after Ozala, ready to mate again. Ozala leaps out of his way. Oumbi gets ready to go inside, with Shufai, Lope's younger brother, in front of him, entering first. I'm not sure if Oumbi saw Ozala inside or decided to rush after Shufai when he made his last dash through the door. The video also features more clips of Biddy, Shufai, Ozala, and Asante. To conclude the video, there's another look at Lope. DON'T FORGET... over the next couple of months, you'll still see Lope with his family, as I have still plenty of footage of him from the last few weeks and before.
